Furscience
Furscience is an interdisciplinary team that studies furries from a psychological and sociological perspective.
At JMoF 2025, they will conduct their first field research in Asia. In addition, a real scientist from the team will attend JMoF and hold an event where they will explain their history and results, as well as answer your questions about their activities and research.
A Japanese survey will also be available this time, so you can participate even if you only speak Japanese. If you are interested in, please check it out!
About Furscience
Furscience is an interdisciplinary team of real scientists, studying furries to better understand the fandom and broaden the scientific literature on furries. They also inform the general public and mainstream media’s understanding of furries, while challenging misinformation about them.
Activities and Research
As academics and scientists, Furscience first and foremost uses both quantitative and qualitative, interdisciplinary methodologies to pose questions and gather data about furries and their fandom. They attend furry conventions, conduct surveys and interviews, study and analyse the collected data, and compare the results to other non-furry fandoms, other social groups, and the general population.
They present these scientific findings back to the fandom in science talks at conventions like Eurofurence and Anthrocon, at scientific conferences like ISRI (International Society for Research on Identity) in the Netherlands, and online on their various platforms. All of their research is evidenced-based, ethics-approved, and some of it is university and government funded. Their results are published in peer-reviewed academic journals, and they make their findings available on their website.
What They Will Do At JMoF
At JMoF, Furscience will continue their research, asking various sociological and psychological questions about the fandom and your experiences in the fandom specifically. They will be handing out business cards with a QR code which also links to their survey.
In addition, they have a time-slot to present their latest furry findings from their research to date, so please bring a friend or two, and bring all of your burning furry science questions. Whether you’re new or a veteran greymuzzle, you’re sure to learn something!
