Traveling from Overseas
The description below is for those who are not residents of Japan. If you are a resident of Japan, please note that some services may not be available.
Toyohashi City has no airport. You need to take trains from some airport. Since the public transportation system is complicated, make sure to check out the train map ahead of time.
You have three options to fly into Japan.
Chubu Centrair International Airport (airport code: NGO)
The Centrair Airport is the nearest airport to Toyohashi, located approximately 60 km to the west. It is an international airport offering connections to major East and Southeast Asian cities.
Centrair has an excellent connection to the railway service (Central Japan International Airport Station). The trains come every 15 minutes during the daytime, and you need to change trains at Jingū-mae Station for Toyohashi. It takes about 90 minutes, and the standard single fare is 1,840 JPY (an additional 450 JPY is needed for reserved seats).
You can see the timetable between the Airport Station and Toyohashi Station here.
Narita International Airport (airport code: NRT)
Narita Airport is the largest International Airport in Japan and one of the major international hub airports in Asia, serving plenty of flights. However, it’s quite far from Toyohashi.
You can take the Narita Express (NEX) train or a bus to Tokyo Station. The train’s standard single fare is about 3,000 JPY, and the bus costs about 1,300 JPY. From Tokyo Station, there is a Shinkansen (bullet train) to Toyohashi. Single fare is about 9,000 JPY (reserved seat fee included.) It takes about 80 minutes from Tokyo to Toyohashi.
Haneda Airport (a.k.a. Tokyo International Airport, airport code: HND)
Haneda Airport is the nearest international airport to Tokyo. There are flights from some countries of Asia, Europe, and the US. Toyohashi is far from this airport as well. You need to take trains or buses.
There is a train to Shinagawa Station. The train’s standard single fare is about 330 JPY. From Shinagawa Station, you take a Shinkansen (bullet train) to Toyohashi. Single fare is about 9,000 JPY (reserved seat fee included.) It takes about 80 minutes from Shinagawa to Toyohashi.
